Andrew Tabiti to make pro debut this weekend

By Jody Kohn

It will be a bust weekend for fighters from the Mayweather Boxing Club, as many of them will be participating in a card that takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.  Originally scheduled to feature Ishe Smith defending his IBF crown against Carlos Molina, that fight has been scrapped due to an injury sustained by Smith.

Despite one Moeney Team fighter dropping out, the gym will still have a strong presence on the card.  Mickey Bey steps up to the main event against John Molina, and Badou Jack is now in the co-main event.  Additionally, Richard Gavril, Lanell Bellows and Luis Aris will also be putting their undefeated record on the line.

Besides the talented fighters previously mentioned, another fighter will be making his debut Friday night.  Andrew Tabiti, an amateur standout now working with Floyd Mayweather Sr. will compete at cruiserweight, hopefully starting a career that will eventually carry him to a title.

Tabiti has been a regular at the gym for awhile now and is quite familiar with the other fighters competing.  Even though he respects their skills, he believes his own abilities have the potential to carry him as far as any of them.

We spoke to him to get his feelings about being so close to the start of a new career.  Although he admits to some nerves, he doesn’t believe they will have a negative affect.
