Dewey Cooper: Return of the Black Kobra!

This Saturday we see the return of K-1 as it invades the Los Angeles Sports Arena for the K-1 Rising 2012 event. The card features a variety of veterans as well as up and coming fighters. Among the former, Dewey Cooper makes his long awaited return to K-1. Although he has dabbled in both mma and boxing, it is clear to all those who know the Black Kobra, that his heart is in kickboxing.

Dewey has been hard at work in preparation for what he hopes will be a successful return. However, it won’t be easy as he faces the incredibly tough Randy Blake in a battle of young vs. old. For this fight, Dewey is confident he can show that while he may be older, he is far from finished as a fighter and champion. A victory over Blake will certainly go a long way towards proving that.

We have had the opportunity over the past couple years to watch Dewey as he trains at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas. One thing is clear to those who watches Cooper work. There is no chance that anyone he will fight is outworking him during training. I sat down with Dewey’s long time boxing coach, Jeff Mayweather recently and asked him about what he thought of the Black Kobra. Jeff had nothing but positive things to say about him not only as a fighter, but in his other interests as well.

K-1 Rising 2012 takes place September 8th in Los Angeles, and fortunately the U.S audience will be able to watch the fights streaming live on Spike.com.  The card is a bit curious, and some are skeptical of the names involved, but there is no doubt that the show is incredibly important to the future of K-1; at least in the United States.  Win or lose, fans can be sure that the Black Kobra will be there to put on a show.  I try to remain objective, but not in this case.  I will be pulling hard for the hardest working man in combat sports.  Here’s to Dewey kicking ass this Saturday night!
