Langford targets first title

Hot middleweight prospect Tommy Langford kicks off his 2015 campaign in a ten-round contest and aims to end the year with his first championship title.

Langford features as chief support to the big lightweight showdown between Stephen Ormond and Terry Flanagan at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Saturday 14th February, his first ten-rounder, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

Under trainer Tom Chaney, the Birmingham ace, who’s originally from Bideford in Cornwall, has amassed an unbeaten record of eleven fights and a win in Wolverhampton will make him eligible to fight for his first pro title.

The 25-year-olds opponent will be confirmed shortly, but he is excited with the year ahead.

“2015 is going to be a big year for me and it starts at Wolverhampton,” Said Langford.

“It’s going to be an exciting year ahead and providing I get through my first ten rounder, which I’m confident I’ll do, then I’m looking at titles so I hope to end the year with either a regional title or the English title,”

“I’m ranked at number 20 in the new British rankings and I can honestly say between me and the number ten I’d be confident of beating any of them right now.  Obviously I’ve got to prove myself, but I believe this year, as the opponents step up each time and I get the experience, so will my performances,”

“The middleweights is a cracking division right now packed with big names in the top ten like Billy Joe Saunders, Andy Lee, Martin Murray, John Ryder and Chris Eubank Jnr.  I’m a way off mixing with those names right now, but I’d like to think in 2016 I’d face at least one of those.”

Promoted by Frank Warren, in association with P.J Rowson, the WBO European Lightweight clash between Ormond and Flanagan, which doubles as an Eliminator for the WBO World title headlines the action-packed card that also features Welsh super-featherweight Craig Evans; Swindon middleweight Jamie Cox; lightweight prospect Joe Costello; Redditch middleweight Andrew Robinson; Corby cruiserweight Simon Barclay; Tipton light-heavyweight Ricky Summers; Swansea bantamweight Jay Harris and the professional debut of Birmingham super-bantamweight Razza Hamza.
