September to Remember

By: Albert Alvarez

With September fast approaching, we all know that boxing fans can not wait for the wars that September 15th will bring. Whether it’s Chavez Jr.-Martinez or Alvarez-Lopez that you will be watching, the month of September is very much looking to be a September to remember. Very good, intriguing matchups are on the horizon, and it all begins this Saturday night. Let the countdown begin!

September 1st, Live on HBO- Gennady Golovkin vs. Grzegorz Proksa– This fight will be a shoot out from start to finish. Golovkin is an animal of a middleweight that is looking to show the U.S. audience exactly why he is one of the most avoided fighters. Proska himself is a very tough fighter, so do not count him out just yet. As of right now, I am loving Golovkin heavy in this matchup, but the fight can turn fast if Proksa can make the right adjustments.

September 8th, Live on HBO- Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson- Call me crazy, but I am very much looking forward to this high speed chess match between these two super middleweight tacticians. I compare this fight to Roy Jones Jr. vs. Bernard Hopkins 1. I will leave it up to you to decide on who will play Roy, and who will play Bernard. This fight will be won by the holder of the quickest eye. I will spare you the details, but remember where you read it first.

The undercard will have Antonio DeMarco vs. John Molina. This clash is going to be a blood bath. Can DeMarco avoid enough right handed hammers from Molina? Ward vs. Dawson will be a war of skill, but DeMarco vs. Molina will be a battle of will. May the best man win.

September 8th, on Showtime- Randall Bailey vs. Devon Alexander– On paper, Alexander should win this one by boxing Bailey into corners. Thing is that no fight is ever fought or won on paper. Look for Bailey to step in and look to land his over hand right atomic bomb. Alexander must use the ring wisely in this one. Bailey at 37 years old, may be up in age, but he is always reminding us that age is only just a number. Do not miss this welterweight bout.

Lucas Matthysse vs. Ajose Olusegun will fight on the undercard, and both of these 140 pounders are looking to show the world that they belong in the elite class of the junior welterweight division. The winner of this fight will be knocking on Danny Garcia’s front door.

September 15th, Live on Pay Per ViewJulio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez– If you saw the faceoff that these two just had, then you must already be sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for the bell to ring. This war will come down to distance. How far or short will the distance be between them will determine the outcome. If you are Chavez, you do not want a speedy fighter launching into you, and if you are Martinez, you do not want a slugger within a foot of you.

September 15th, Live on ShowtimeSaul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez– These two warriors will bring the fireworks and let it all go. Lopez is never in a dull fight, and Canelo is a young assassin. This fight may not have the hype that Martinez and Chavez Jr. has, but this is a war that you do not want to sleep on.
