Thomas Herrera believes his career is ready to take off

By Jody Kohn

When we visit the Mayweather Boxing Club, we usually talk to a wide variety of title holders, contenders and hot prospects.  But not everyone can fit that bill.  For every fighter that people believe is the next big thing, there must be a fighter that helped build them up.  For those fighters, often called “journeymen,” the dreams are the same, it’s just the results that have been different.  But make no mistake about it, they have the same determination to reach the top as their more highly thought of competitors.

Thomas Herrera is a perfect example of just that.  Every day he can be found in the gym, working on his craft, determined to get better.  At 4-13, it might appear that his chances of becoming champion are slim, but you could never convince him of that.  And if his last fight is any indication, he has a good reason to believe his fortunes are turning around.

Brought into Dallas to serve as an “opponent” for undefeated local kid Carlos Adame Jr., Herrera shocked the hometown crowd on his way to scoring a majority decision in a fight that was only close on the score cards. The loss was the first in the career of Adame.

In the video below, we talk to Herrera to get his thoughts on that fight, as well as how he sees his career going forward.  He believes that it is only a matter of time before he goes from journeyman to title contender.
