Mickey Bey tests positive for elevated testosterone level

Undefeated super featherweight prospect Mickey Bey (19-0-1) has tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone.

A complaint has been filed by the boxer by Nevada officials following the results of the test which was administered before his fight in Las Vegas earlier in the month.  According to the complaint, the Nevada State Athletic Commission says the native of Cleveland had a T/E ratio of more than 30 for his matchup against Robert Rodriguez which took place at the Cosmopolitan.

The elevated T/E ratio is an indication of steroid use.  Mickey Bey’s level was among the highest Commission director had ever seen.  The failed test will likely result in a temporary suspension to be issued later in the month.  Mickey Bey will then be allowed to respond to the charges sometime in April, most likely.

Bey won that fight in the third round with one of the best knockouts of the year so far.  Rodriguez dropped to 7-3 following the loss.  If the charges stick, the fight outcome will likely be overturned.

This latest setback is just another in a series for Bey who was once one of the most decorated amateurs in the game.  As a pro, management issues and injuries have continually stalled any success he may have achieved.  He seemed to think before this latest news, that he had finally righted his ship after signing with The Money Team.

Should he face a long suspension, one has to wonder if this may be the final nail in the coffin of what was once a promising career.
