Puerto Rican boxer Hector Sanchez slain

For the second time in 2013, and the third time in just four months, a Puerto Rican boxer has been murdered in that country.  This time Hector “El Flaco” Sanchez was the victim of violence, as he was shot and killed Sunday in San Juan, along with three other men.  He was struck multiple times, and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The mother of Hector Sanchez confirmed her son’s death when she came out of Centro Medico, the hospital in which Sanchez was being treated.

She explained that late Saturday evening, he said he was going out for awhile, but just over an hour later authorities contacted her saying he had been seriously wounded in a shootout.

Hector Sanchez was just 26-years-old when he died from bullet wounds to both his head and abdomen.

“He was at the wrong place … My son didn’t mess with anyone. He doesn’t hurt anyone,” she said.

The other men who perished were identified by police as Luis Muñoz Castro, 42; Bienvenido Rivera Garcia, 43, and Marcos Javier Tanco Rosario, 40.

In January, Kenneth Diaz was shot down in the town of Trujillo Alto, which is near San Juan.  The culprits in that case were never found.

Diaz was killed in a drive-by shooting along with a pair of other men as they spoke to a security officer outside a school.  A vehicle passed and started shooting, killing Diaz and the others.

The most high profile death took place last November when boxing legend Hector Camacho was murdered as he sat in a car with a friend.  A van passed opening fire on the pair.  Camacho would live for several days before finally dying in the hospital.  Several bags of cocaine were found in the car they were in.

Hector Sanchez last fought in September, when he suffered a TKO loss at the hands of Julio Diaz.  He had a career mark of 19-3.
