Photos: Shumenov Cruises to victory over tough but outgunned Ornelas

In a lopsided performance on Saturday night at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, WBA and IBA Light Heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov defeated outgunned Enrique Orlenas by unanimous decision.  In what was a clean sweep from all judges, Shumenov dominated the fight from bell to bell with the only question being whether or not Orlenas would make it to the decision.  He did make the final bell showing durability, but a reluctance to really turn the fight into a brawl.  Instead it appeared more like an exhibition for Shumenov who put on a clinic for those in attendance and watching on television.

In his corner for the first time was the Black Kobra, Dewey Cooper who was making his debut in the corner for a men’s fight.  He has been the longtime trainer for women’s multiple time world champion Jessica Rakoczy, but had yet to corner a male fighter.  Tonight he led not only Shumenov to victory, but was also in the corner when Ravshan Hudaynazarov remained undefeated with a convincing victory over talented Euri Gonzalez.  It was surely a night to remember for Cooper who himself is still an active fighter in kickboxing, mma, and boxing.
