Skoglund confident of beating ‘living legend’ Johnson

Erik Skoglund (21-0-0, 11 KOs) is confident he has the beating of legendary Jamaican boxer Glen Johnson (54-19-2, 37 KOs) when the pair meet on December 13 at the Nordic Fight Night at the Albertslund MusikTeatret in Copenhagen.

”Johnson has my respect, but I’m not afraid,” said the self-assured Swede.

“It’s going to be an interesting matchup. Johnson has a lot of experience, he is a living legend, while I’m a young up and coming fighter, chasing a world title.

“Johnson has some defeats on his record and when you study it, you can see that he’s had problems with young fighters like me in the past. He will have big problems on December 13.’’

Despite his confidence, Skoglund is preparing himself for a long night in Copenhagen. “I’ve never been stopped, and Johnson has only ever been stopped twice, so I’m not expecting an early stoppage. I will be ready to go the distance,’’ said the 23 year-old.

Fighting the best in his division has long been the dream for Skoglund, who had been vocal about his desire to face Bernard Hopkins, prior to the American’s loss to Sergey Kovalev in November.

”I really wanted Hopkins to win the fight against Kovalev. It was my dream to face him one day, now it might never happen.

“But you never know and that’s the thing with fighters like Hopkins and Johnson – you should never count them out.”
