Kevin Newman II has been competing for years as a talented amateur, but before he turns professional most likely early next year, he still has some unfinished business left in those ranks. Next week, Newman will be in Kansas City where he will compete in the Ringside World Championships which take place from July 31- August 3.
Having trained under Jeff Mayweather since the age of nine, Newman has been fortunate enough to have one of the best trainers in the world, along with some of the best fighters in the world, teaching him the sport for well over a decade. He believes having such a wealth of knowledge at his disposal has helped him continue to get better, and will ultimately make him a world champion as a professional fighter.
More than anything, Newman is just happy to be able to fight again. A series of injuries, most notably to his left arm, have kept him on the sidelines for over a year and a half. Although he has always been a gym rat, there comes a time when a fighter is just ready to compete.
“There comes a point in time when a trainer is just sick of training. They are just ready to get in there and go, and that’s how I feel,” Newman said.
Well, his long wait is almost over. Next week, when he once again climbs back into the ring, we will get a glimpse of just how good Kevin Newman II can be.
