Now that the announcement is official, it’s time to begin properly hyping the upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather and Robert Guerrero.
With his history of being a big talker, it comes as somewhat of a surprise that Floyd Mayweather is not the one hyping up their fight the most. At least not yet. Perhaps as a way to convince doubters that he has a place in a fight this large, Guerrero has repeatedly insisted that this fight is his for the taking. He believes that Mayweather has slowed with age, his footwork, particularly, having deteriorated markedly over the years. Although he still has a high fight IQ, Guerrero believes Mayweather is no longer as good as people may think. He plans on exposing that come May 4.
As hype for the fight gathers momentum, two side attractions have come out of it. First, Saul Alvarez was supposed to be on the undercard of this fight. A math up with he and Austin Trout would have made for a great pay-per-view double header. However, that fell through when, according to Floyd, Alvarez demanded he got a shot at Floyd in September in return. One thing that any fighter should know about Floyd Mayweather is, you don’t issue him ultimatums.
Besides that mess, there is also a bizarre feud that has developed between the fathers of both combatants. A war of words has erupted in the media between Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Ruben Guerrero. Both elderly men have gone back and forth, discussing their credentials both in, and out of the ring, and their desire to inflict bodily harm on the other.
One man who will likely be the subject of many interviews in the lead up, will be Jeff Mayweather. As the most laid back of the Mayweather brothers, he is often the go to guy when it comes to getting a perspective on things. In this interview, he discusses the situations mentioned above as well as a couple of other topics.
