If their bout tonight in Brooklyn is anywhere near as entertaining as the build up has been, then fans should be in for a treat tonight when Danny Garcia faces Zab Judah. In fact, things have become so ugly between the two camps that Golden Boy opted not to have the two sides appear together at the final press conference which was held on Thursday.
“We thought it was the right thing to do,” Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya said. “We want to see a fight Saturday night. We just didn’t want to risk anything.”
On Tuesday, things got ugly when Zab Judah crashed a meet and greet he initially turned down an offer to attend. He showed up after he learned the Garcia camp was also there. Things got nasty and even spilled out into the parking lot. That led to the decision to keep the sides apart on Thursday. Such a step is rare for boxing, however, it also notably happened back when Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis fought.
Danny Garcia and his camp appeared first at the news conference, then left the scene before Judah came in.
“I’m a little disappointed because I couldn’t wait to look in his eyes and snatch his soul out of his body,” said Garcia, who is coming off of back-to-back knockout wins over Amir Khan and Erik Morales. “I just couldn’t wait to look in his eyes.”
Following Garcia, Zab Judah was brought in, and he was angered by the arrangement, in which he was not told about prior. Saying he was kept in a basement without food or water, he ripped Oscar De La Hoya, and even members of his own entourage once he got onto the stage.
“You might see some frustration up here because of how I was treated,” Judah said, “but Saturday night I’ll remember all of this. I’m gonna bring it to the table.”
Here is a video of the incident involving Zab Judah. It really needs to be seen to be believed.
