Inside the ring Floyd Mayweather may have never been beaten, but when it comes to the Clark County court system, he has suffered more than his share of defeats. However, it appears the talented fighter may have returned to the winner’s circle there as well.
A lawsuit against Floyd Mayweather, as well as two of his bodyguards, for their involvement in a shooting at a las Vegas roller rink has been dismissed. The only cost to the fighter will be the substantial lawyer fees that likely accrued.
The lawsuit began back in 2011 when Mayweather, Jackie Ray Jones and Ocie Harris were accused of conspiracy and assault against Damian Bland and Quincey Williams. Filed by personal injury lawyer Robert Eglet, the suit stemmed from a shooting that took place on Aug. 23, after Mayweather had a falling out with Williams, who had worked for him at one time.
However, last week the case was closed when court records show that nobody showed up for a hearing before District Judge Jerry Wiese.
Floyd Mayweather had been dismissed from the case quite some time ago. In an order dated Sept. 21, 2012, Eglet’s firm, along with the lawyers for Mayweather made an agreement that the case would be dismissed with prejudice and each side agreeing to pay their own lawyer fees and costs associated with the suit.
Despite the distractions outside the ring, Floyd Mayweather has kept up his winning ways inside of it. Most recently, he cruised to a unanimous decision victory over Robert Guerrero on May 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He next will see action on Sept. 14, when he face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Although he is the favorite going into that fight, it is considered to be the most significant test he will have faced in years.
