Rumors are circulating that former Olympian, and former junior welterweight champion Amir Khan may be next in line to face pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. Khan has also been linked to a possible showdown in December with welterweight title holder Devon Alexander.
With the possibility of a showdown between Mayweather and Khan, team Alexander appears to be worried that a fight with Khan in December will not materialize. They suspect Khan will try to find a “soft touch” opponent.
However, with the welterweight division being so jammed packed with stiff competition, it will be rather difficult for the former champion to actually find a “soft touch” opponent.
WBA interim-welterweight champion Keith Thurman took the opportunity to take some verbal jabs at Amir Khan. In an interview with Live Fight, Keith stated “He couldn’t take Garcia’s left hook at 140, he has no business at 147.” This could be an attempt for Thurman to get his name in the mix.
The former Olympian may lack a lot of things, but he does not lack both skills and excitement inside of the ring. He may not have a chin like Marvin Hagler, but the British fighter has what it takes to give a loaded division more fireworks than it already has.
If Khan is indeed looking for a“soft touch,” he may not find it at welterweight. What he will find is a young, hungry, vicious pack of wolves lined up and ready to fight for the right to be the alpha of the packed welterweight division. Khan is a young wolf, himself looking to be an Alpha. Only time will tell if he will achieve success.
