By Andy Clark: Sheffield’s Kell Brook stepped back onto the world stage in impressive fashion, stopping former world champion Vyacheslav Senchenko, in front of his hometown fans at the Motorpoint Arena. Brook now holds the mandatory position for the winner of Alexander/Porter, whilst Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn, mentioned the likes of Amir Khan and Adrien Broner are being considered.
Round one was a tentative round, in which both boxers attempted to find their range, while exchanging quality jabs. Brook took a close round by landing the harder, more accurate punches.
Brook and Senchenko stepped up a gear in round two. Building on their success with the jab, both boxers opened up behind the jab and threw a wider variety of punches to the body and head. Just before the round ended, Brook landed the first significant right hand of the fight and won another close round.
Senchenko raised his game early in the third, landing two decent left hooks in the first minute of the round. Brook answered by landing a hurtful straight right which had Senchenko backing up against the ropes. As Brook came forward he landed another left hook, forcing Senchenko to hold. Brook kept his foot on the pedal and moments later Brook landed a sweet left, right, knocking Senchenko down hard.
Brook jumped straight back on the hurt Senchenko, unleashing accurate flurries of punches. Senchenko landed a nice counter right of his own but this doesn’t deter Brook as he lands another huge right hand, which shook Senchenko to his core. Brook followed up with hurtful left hooks to the head as Senchenko managed to hang on for the final ten seconds of round three. As Senchenko walks back to his corner, he appeared to be in some discomfort with his ear.
Brook dominated the first half of round four until out of no where, Senchenko landed a quality right hand which visibly hurt Brook. Senchenko pressed the action but Brook managed to evade or block most of the Senchenko’s combinations. Senchenko landed a further right hand but Brook absorbed the punch well. With just over twenty seconds remaining of the forth, Brook lands a huge right hand, followed by a left hook. Brook narrowly misses Senchenko with the uppercut as Senchenko slumps to the floor for the second time.
Senchenko made it to his feet but referee Shada Murdaugh called an end to the contest with seconds remaining of the forth round, as Senchenko was in no fit state to continue. Kell Brook’s record improves to 31-0 with 21 knockouts as exciting fights lay ahead for one of England’s biggest talents.
