On Friday morning, Kelly Pavlik was supposed to be in court for a pretrial hearing on minor criminal charges. However, according to the Youngstown Vindicator, he “made a grunting noise and then collapsed” in the coutroom before the hearing was able to begin.
The charges stemmed from an incident with a taxi driver last September, where Pavlik is accused of refusing to pay $25 for a ride home from an Ohio bar. He faces one count of theft of less than $1,000.
He also has another hearing scheduled for March to face DUI charges. Those charges stemmed from an incident in December where police responded to a report of a driver driving erratically on the Ohio Turnpike.
“A trooper spotted Pavlik’s car at the gate trying to exit the turnpike, but Pavlik did not have a pass or ticket on him to exit the toll road,” the Vindicator said, citing a police report of the incident. “As the trooper questioned Pavlik, he showed signs that he was impaired.”
Pavlik declined to take a breathalyzer, but was still charged after it was determined that he was most likely impaired.
Kelly Pavlik finished his career with a 40-2 record. His last win came in 2012 over Will Rosinsky.
