In April, on NUVOtv, “Knockout” is scheduled to hit the air. If you haven’t heard about it, the concept is to take undiscovered talents, or those looking for another chance, and to pair them up with some of the best trainers in the game to compete for a chance at a big time fight.
The trainers have, so far, commanded the majority of the attention. That’s no big surprise considering the mercurial Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Ruben Guerrero are involved, not to mention Yoel Judah who is no stranger to controversy himself.
Friday marked the final day of filming, and the media was invited to come out to the IBA gym and meet one final time with the fighters and trainers. It was a strange contrast as most of the actual competitors were laid back and just relaxing, while the trainers were far more animated than anyone else.
Throughout the filming, Floyd Sr. and Ruben have gone at it multiple times. On this day, they did engage in some trash talking, but for the most part, everyone kept a level head. Perhaps the most entertaining moments came when the three trainers got together for some photos and it turned into a pose of with both Ruben and Floyd flexing their muscles. Guerrero even took off his shirt to make sure we all got a great view of his body.
The two discussed wanting to turn the trash talking into an actual fight, whether in a ring or in the street. For those who think the heat between the two is for television purposes, rest assured it is not. There is a genuine dislike there, which probably has a lot to do with the fact that they both have sons who compete at the highest level.
“Knockout” will be a great opportunity to once again give boxing some much needed exposure. Hopefully, the show produces and we are treated to not only some great moments between the trainers, but also some great fights inside the ring. After all, that is the most important thing!
