Saunders targets Woodhouse and Limond

Hot light-welterweight prospect Bradley Saunders says he’s ready, willing and able to beat British Champion Curtis Woodhouse and Commonwealth Champion Willie Limond.

The 2007 World Amateur Championship Bronze Medallist and 2008 Beijing Olympian, who’s currently undefeated in eight fights with six knockouts, features on the undercard of tomorrow night’s big IBF World Bantamweight title clash between Stuart Hall and Martin Ward, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/HD 490 and Virgin Ch. 546).

Saunders steps up to ten-rounder against Scotsman Mitch Prince who extended Limond the distance in a Commonwealth title challenge last year.

The 28-year-old from Sedgefield is straining at the leash to get either Woodhouse, who won the British title against Darren Hamilton last month, or respected Glasgow warrior Limond, but both have turned down offers.

Saunders says he’s happy to go straight for the European Champion, Italian Michele Di Rocco, if Woodhouse and Limond continue to dodge him.

“Look, I’ve asked for both several times already. I’m not dodging anybody. There’s no light-welter in Britain that can beat me. Frank (Warren) has offered them more money than anybody else is offering them but they’re not keen. They know I’m a hard night for anyone at ten stone. If I had my way, one of those two would be my next fight.” Said Saunders.

“I respect Willie Limond for what he’s achieved in the sport but I don’t massively rate him as a fighter. Curtis is a cracking lad. In a recent tweet regarding the best 140 pounder in Britain, he involved me which was very honest of him.”

“There’s not a doubt in my mind that I could beat the pair of them already and it’s in their interests to be fighting me sooner rather than later. I’m only going to get better. The longer they leave it, the worse it’ll get for them. The time to fight me is now.”

“But they’ll say they’ve nothing to gain by boxing an eight fight novice and I can’t wait around for these guys, can’t dawdle until I’m made mandatory. I’m ready to go now and I have to explore every option. Look, I’d be quite happy to go straight for the European champion (Umbria’s Michele Di Rocco) and I’d even go to Italy to challenge him.”

“With a title on the line, you’re going to see an even better Bradley Saunders.”
