In the HBO main event from Madison Square Garden in New York City, Gennady Golovkin blasted the normally durable Daniel Geale out with one straight right hand flush on the chin. Geale was able to get up quick but was just about out on his feet. Referee Michael Ortega stopped the bout as Geale was unable to steady himself enough to continue. Geale boxed well in the first round and was able to land a couple of right hands that got Golovkin’s attention. However, Golovkin would have success in the 2nd round walking Geale down. He scored a controversial knockdown but it appeared that Golovkin’s power shots were moving Geale. In the third round the two fighters exchanged right hands but the damage would be done to Geale as he couldn’t take Golovkin’s power. Golovkin improved to 30-0 with his 17 straight knockouts. A December mega bout with Miguel Cotto is on the horizon.
