HEAVYWEIGHT sensation Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne is currently enjoying the bright lights of Las Vegas and has set out his plans to one day box in the world’s fight capital.
The unbeaten Aussie is in Sin City to take part in the WBC’s 52nd annual convention alongside promoter and former four-time world champion Ricky Hatton.
As well as giving him opportunity to lobby for a world title shot in 2015, it has given Lucas a change to rub shoulders with the sport’s true greats and he admits he’s not got quite an appetite for stardom.
“I’ve absolutely loved my time in Las Vegas. Coming over here with Ricky Hatton has given me a taste of the big time and it’s been excellent exposure for my career,” Lucas said.
“I’ve met plenty of legends. Evander Holyfield, Carlos Zarate, Oscar De la Hoya, Sugar Ray Leonard, Joe Calzaghe and Nigel Benn, just to name a few.
“The WBC Convention has been an amazing experience and it’s made me determined to headline a card here before too long. Next year is going to be absolutely enormous year for me. The title is within touching distance and I’m closing in.
“I met WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne. If he defends successfully against Wilder in January, I want that belt! I’d love to meet him here in Vegas! Two huge punchers, I’m sure the fight fans would enjoy it.”
Ricky Hatton knows a thing or two about wowing Vegas as he attracted more than 30,000 Brits to his epic fights in the city and he believes Lucas can potentially lead an Aussie invasion of The Strip.
He said: “It’s fighter’s dream to top the bill in Vegas. I was lucky enough to do it five times and there’s every reason Lucas can too.
“He’s got an exciting style with power in both hands and that’s exactly what American fans love. He’s building his support in Aus and in the UK as well so I think he’d get a fair few travelling to see him if he was in a world title fight at somewhere like the MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay.”
