Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing Jr. Welterweight contender Emanuel “Tranzforma” Taylor and world rated Antonio Orozco waged a high pitched battle over the 10 round distance in the Jr. Welterweight division.
Orozco pulled out a very close decision in the back and forth fight that easily could have been scored a draw. The bout was telecast live over the TruTV Network and co- promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions.
Both fighters came out guns a blazing at the opening bell landing heavy shots to the body and head of each other. Orozco’s strategy was clear as he tried to weaken Taylor with a heavy body assault but Taylor fired back with sharp counters to the head and body of Orozco.
The action continued this way over the next few rounds but in round 5 Taylor started to dictate the action firing shots off of his jab and for the first time backing Orozco up. Taylor did heavy damage to Orozco’s face in rounds 8 and 9 causing his right eye to swell and start to close. The fight was too close to call as the bell sounded for round 10 with little to separate these two warriors. The crowd rose to their feet in appreciation as the final bell rang with the fight seemingly in the balance.
In the end it was Orozco, who improves to 22-0 15KO’s, eking out a very close decision by scores of 96-94 on two cards and an absurd 98-92 on the third card. Taylor drops to 18-4 12KO’s but can hang his head high as he once again fought valiantly in defeat.
Star Boxing Founder and CEO Joe DeGuardia had this to say about the fight, “These are the type of fights the fans want to see. Two highly skilled, young fighters leaving it all in the ring. I’m very proud of Emanuel as he once again went into hostile territory and fought his heart out. He deserved better on the scorecards in my opinion but I promise you Emanuel will be back stronger and better in the near future”.
