Dodd: I’ll take Cardle’s British title

Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd says he’ll rip the British Lightweight title from Scotty Cardle at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on November 7, live on Sky Sports.

Dodd landed the shot at Cardle’s title after a career-best win over Gary Buckland in September, and the Birkenhead fan-favourite says he can capitalise on his golden chance to fight for the Lord Lonsdale belt and end the Lytham St. Annes mans’ reign in his first defence.

“I am going to do this – I will be British champion on November 7,” said Dodd. “I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve for Scotty – everything is going well, I’ve had plenty of notice for this, let the bruising go down from the Buckland fight and trained like a mad man for this one. I usually have to work and train but for this one, it’s just been training, and I think that’s going to make a massive difference on the night.

“The reaction since winning the Buckland fight and then landing the Cardle fight has been overwhelming – I’ve tried to lock myself away from it all and concentrate on the training because this fight means everything to me – but I really want to thank the fans for all their support, it’s been amazing.

“It’s sad that Gary has retired, it was great to beat him but for him to retire afterwards was a shame, he is a great guy and had a fantastic career. Those fights with Gavin Rees probably took a lot out of him, so I probably owe Gavin a pint for that!”

Dodd challenges Cardle on a huge night of boxing in Liverpool as World-rated Merseyside Super-Middleweights Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding put their unbeaten records on the line with the vacant British title up for grabs.

Ricky Burns can take a huge step towards reclaiming his WBO World Lightweight title when he faces Josh King for the Inter-Continental Lightweight title, Prizefighter champion Tom Doran meets Rod Smith in an eliminator for the British Middleweight title and unbeaten Lightweight talent Ohara Davies faces Chris Truman.

Limited tickets are sale now from the Echo Arena website www.echoarena.com and on 0844 8000 400 – priced £40, £60, £80, £100 and £150.
