Gomez remains perfect, Mickey Bey gets the perfect knockout

Unbeaten welterweight Frankie Gomez (15-0 11 KO’s) earned a lopsided unanimous decision victory against over matched Lanard Lane (13-3 8 KO’s) Saturday night in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.  Gomez never faced any real adversity in the fight, which is fortunate because his cardio appeared to be a real issue as the fight entered the latter rounds.  He won by scores of 98-92, 100-90, 100-90.

The most impressive performance of the evening was no doubt turned in by another undefeated fighter, Mickey Bey (19-0-1 10 KO’s).  Bey flattened Roberto Rodriguez with a massive left hook just seconds after dropping him with another left.  The knockout came at 1:07 of round three and had the crowd abuzz.  Following the win, Bey called out Ricky Burns.

2012 Olympian Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz Jr. (2-0, 1 KO) scored a second round KO over Jose Ruiz (2-3) in a bantamweight match-up. Ruiz was down twice. Time was 2:03.

Unbeaten Badou Jack used a big body shot to extend his record to 12-0 with 9 KOs, knocking out Jonuel Tapia (8-4-1, 5 KOs) in the night’s opening super middleweight bout.
