Lamont Peterson vs. Kendall Holt (IBF jr welterweight title)– This is going to be a very exciting clash. I have always been a big fan of Holt. My only knock on Holt is that I always felt that he tried too hard to fight like Roy Jones Jr. If Holt can sit on his punches rather than glide on his toes as Roy used to do, “Rated R” Holt can land something scary on Peterson.
Peterson must stay on his opponent and must dig to the body with full force to drain that power away from Rated R. If Peterson can do just that, Holt will have to dig deep to stay above water. The key for Rated R will be to step in with a stiff jab, then fire a straight left towards Petersons right shoulder blade to shift Peterson into position where Holt can then smash him with a fierce right hook. It’s going to be a back and forth battle, but in the end, I see Peterson winning it by unanimous decision.
Saturday, February 23 2013, Showtime Cornelius Bundrage vs. Ishe Smith (IBF super welterweight title)– K9 Bundrage is going to look to bully Smith from ring post to ring post. His game plan however, should be to cut the ring off and step towards his opponent, opposed to chasing him. Smith is going to force K9 to work extremely hard for his meal.
Ishe must box and utilize the entire ring by changing direction time and time again to blitz his opponent from different angles. If Bundrage is not careful, he will be forced to eat shot after shot, he is going to have to circle out in order to avoid walking directly into damaging blows. To the naked eye, K9 is a very strong muscular looking fighter. But unfortunately, having muscles doesn’t usually win boxing matches. I’m picking Ishe Smith to walk the dog by controlling K9 for most of the fight. Smith by split decision.
Dance in the Desert on April 19th, Jesus “El Martillo” Gonzales vs. Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora
Press Release-
April 19th, 2013 will mark the return of fan favorite Jesus “El Martillo” Gonzales as makes his 1st attempt at the middleweight division against former World Champion Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora. Gonzales, who lost his last bout against the IBF #1 contender Adonis Stevenson, will make a move to 160 lbs for the first time in front of his legion of AZ fight fans. “Jesus had a rough night against Stevenson in Canada, but he has been preparing for this return and is ready to make an impact at Middleweight. The power he brings to the middleweight division makes him an instant title contender” explained Ralph Velez Jr. of FanBase promotions.
Before “El Martillo” faced Stevenson in Canada, he participated in an absolute war on ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” against Francisco Sierra. Both men thrilled AZ fight fans as well as fight fans worldwide on ESPN2. Gonzales showed tremendous heart, trading knockdowns with Sierra, en route to a hard fought & well deserved Unanimous Decision victory.
Former Jr. Middleweight champion Sergio “Latin Snake” Mora is looking to make a triumphant return to the ring after losing his last fight to Brian Vera in San Antonio, Texas. Even though he lost it was not without controversy, since many ringside observers felt Mora should have been awarded a razor thin decision. Mora holds victories over Ishe Smith, Peter Manfredo, Vernon Forrest as well as a draw with future Hall of Famer “Sugar” Shane Mosely.
Both men are expected to pull out all stops to earn another notch in the win column on April 19th, 2013 in the Phoenix, AZ area. A victory for either warrior will most certainty earn them a title shot against one of the champion in the middleweight division. “This is a classic boxer vs. puncher match up with world title implications. We are excited to bring this fight to AZ fight fans” exclaimed Ralph Velez Jr.
Eddie Brooks, Paul “Ziggy” Romero, and newly signed Mario Esparza will also be in action.
