A quick preview of the weekend’s action

By Albert Alvarez

ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, Delvin Rodriguez vs. George Tahdooahnippah, 10 rounds,(middleweights)

I see this fight being a fun, action packed scrap. Tahdooahnippah is a very heavy fisted fighter that always brings it. Rodriguez as we all know, is a very tough fighter who always gives it his very all. I feel that the fight will remain close through the first 6 rounds or so, but then down the stretch, Tahdooahnippah’s heavier shots will be the difference maker. Rodriguez will have to stick and move without burning off too much energy and must try to box from a safe distance. But as I mentioned, I feel that Tahdooahnippah will step in and press the action and will find a home for his heavy right cross and because of that, I am picking him to win by split decision.

HBO Saturday, February 16, 2013 Adrien Broner vs. Gavin Rees (lightweight)

Broner, Broner, and a lot more Broner. It’s going to be all Broner in this one. Rees is going to have to catch Broner with a very lucky shot in order to have a chance in this one. Broner is a very gifted fighter that can bang you out on the inside and outside. The Problem is just going to be way too much for Rees to deal with, and that’s no knock on Rees either. I feel that Gavin is a tough, stocky, straight shooter that knows how to rough you up. But I see him overdosing on a barrage of clean shots that he will not be able to recover from. Unless Broner has a very bad off night, I just don’t see his opponent being the slightest threat to him. The Problem will pretty much have his way in there and will dissect and beat down his prey.

My pick is Broner by KO inside 7 rounds.
