The former WBO champion at strawweight, Alex “El Nene” Sanchez (31-8-1, 21 KO’s) is going to make one final run at the top. The 39-year-old boxer has been inactive since last December’s TKO defeat to Glenn Donaire. Sanchez took that fight, at 112-pounds, after a near four year layoff.
He wants to return to 108-pounds on a December date in Florida and wants to get a rematch with Ivan Calderon at 105 – if Calderon defeats WBO champion Moises Fuentes on October 6th in Puerto Rico.
“I’m going to fight in December in Florida. I have to talk to my people. I would like to return at 108 pounds and can I squeeze under 105 if Calderon wins the title. I want to get that last chance. I’m not that heavy and I have energy,” Sanchez said.
