Ever since he defeated Chris Arreola to become the mandatory challenger for the WBC heavyweight title held by Vitali Klitschko, Bermane Stiverne has had to wait patiently while the big Rusian decided whether or not he was going to continue with his boxing career, or concentrate his efforts on his political ambitions.
With the WBC declaring Klitschko their “Champion Emiritus,” we got our answer. The title is now vacant, and we await the organization’s announcement of who will fight for the opportunity to claim the belt. Logically, it would seem that Stiverne would be one of the people getting first crack. However, in the world of boxing, nothing is ever a sure thing. With other heavyweights like Arreola, Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora waiting in the wings for their own opportunities, you can be sure their is a lot of political maneuvering going on behind the scenes as each fighter jockeys for position.
For his part, Stiverne seems confident that he will be given the chance he earned, and isn’t really worried about who he has to meet in the ring to take the belt. He is confident that he has what it takes and its only a matter of time until he takes the belt held by Klitschko for so long. And should Vitali look to come back at some point to reclaim it, that is ok by him.
