Bronco McKart out against J’Leon Love

Another shakeup to the boxing card taking place in Detroit on February 23 has occurred.  This time, former World Champion Bronco McKart has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout with undefeated J’Leon Love.

McKart had to pull out of the contest due to a rib injury he sustained while training.  In his place, Derrick Findley will step in to challenge Love, who will be fighting in his hometown.  The action that evening will take place in the Masonic Temple Theatre and showcases several fighters signed to The Money Team.  It will air on Showtime.

The main event was originally scheduled to feature Devon Alexander and Kell Brooks.  However, that fight was scrapped when Alexander was forced to pull out with his own injury.  The scrap between Detroit native Cornelius “K9” Bundrage and Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith was elevated to the main event.  That contest will be for Bundrage’s IBF Junior Middleweight World Championship.

J’Leon Love (14-0, 8 KO’s) has a lot of momentum behind him.  In 2012, he won five fights.  Two of those were by knockouts, while two more came via decision.  His final victory came by disqualification in a fight he was winning handily.  The fight with McKart was to be a step up for Love and possibly elevate him from prospect to contender.

Derrick Findley (20-8, 13 KO’s) is a durable fighter who will not make things easy for Love.  Although he doesn’t have the credetials of Bronco McKart, he is coming off a couple of wins, including one in his last fight in which he knocked out Ronald Hearns.  That fight also took place in the Detroit area and came against a local, showing that Findley has no issues facing a fighter in his own backyard.

Should Love come through this fight unscathed, look for him to take a step up in class in his next fight.
