Kell Brook will make the first defence of his IBF World Welterweight title at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield in March, and he and promoter Eddie Hearn will announce the opponent and date at a press conference in Sheffield next Monday (January 19).
The Sheffield star claimed the title in fantastic fashion by outpointing Shawn Porter in Los Angeles in August to rip the belt from the Ohio favourite. Brook’s first defence has been delayed following an incident in Spain the following month, but back to full fitness and currently training in Tenerife ahead of his maiden defence.
“I can’t wait to finally see Kell make that walk at the Motorpoint Arena as World Champion,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “2014 was a year of incredible highs and lows and the bravery he has shown to come back from that life threatening injury has been quite remarkable. People doubted Kell before he ripped the World title from Porter in America. The fact is that Kell is a special fighter and I believe he will go on to unify the 147 lbs division, it will be an emotional night for Kell and another big statement will be made.”
Tickets for the 28 year old’s first World title bout in his hometown will go on sale on Monday January 19 to Matchroom Fight Pass members, with promoter Eddie Hearn to reveal his opponent that day, with tickets then on general sale the following day (Tuesday January 20).
Further details on the undercard will also be released next Monday.
