Carlos Molina throws his hat in the Canelo-Mayweather sweepstakes

Names continue to be floated around about who will be facing both Saul Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather Jr. at their upcoming bouts slated for May 4.  The common opponents making the rounds are Robert Guerrero, Devon Alexander, Austin Trout, and even Manny Pacquiao.

One name that hasn’t been mentioned much is Carlos Molina.  Apparently that doesn’t sit well with “King” Carlos.  In a press release sent out Thursday morning, he let his willingness to challenge either be known.

“As I sit and wait for an IBF title shot against the winner of Bundrage-Smith, I can’t help but read and listen to the headlines of who Mayweather and Canelo might fight.  Let’s end the discussion.  I’ll fight and beat either of them at 147 or 154. Let’s do it! I’m ready for May 4th!”

It remains to be seen if either Floyd Mayweather or Saul Alvarez would take him up on the offer.  And although he may not be on their radar now, as we have seen with the ever-revolving list of potential opponents, things could change at any moment.

Carlos Molina (21-5) is coming off a victory over Cory Spinks earlier in the month.  The loss sent Spinks into retirement and was the second consecutive win for Molina following his bizarre disqualification against James Kirkland in a fight he was ahead in.  If he were to be able to secure a fight with either, it would represent a significant step up in competition for him and answer the question if he is among the elite fighters in either division.

News changes almost daily concerning Saul Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather Jr.  At this time it appears they are most likely to face Austin Trout and Robert Guerrero, respectively.  However, as we have seen, things change quickly and should either fighter be willing to consider it, Carlos Molina is willing and able to step up and face them.
