Sun Bowl, El Paso, Texas — Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32 KOs) stopped Andy Lee (28-2, 20 KOs) in round seven to retain his WBC middleweight title. Lee found success with his jab in the opening round. The jab was once again, the key for Lee as he fought behind it in the second round and landed a couple of clean shots. Chavez Jr. had his best round yet, in the third when he cut off the ring and landed left hooks to the body. The referee warned Lee to keep his gloves up in the third. Later in the round Chavez Jr. scored a big right hand followed with combinations. Chavez Jr. started finding success on the inside, in the fourth as he continued digging shots to the body. Things got heated in the fifth as both men kept the fight in the middle of the ring, for the most part. In round six, Chavez Jr. cornered Lee and banged away to the body. Lee could not get off the ropes in the seventh round. Chavez Jr. mixed his punches up, going upstairs and to the body. After an unanswered onslaught by Chavez Jr., referee Laurence Cole had no choice but to put a halt to the bout.

In other action, Miguel “Titere” Vazquez (31-3, 13 KOs) won a wide ten round unanimous decision over Daniel “The Prophet” Attah (26-11-1, 9 KOs). The IBF lightweight championship owned by Vazquez, was obviously not on the line. All three judges saw it 100-90.
