Dereck Chisora’s chief sparring partner, former world heavyweight title challenger Mariusz Wach, says the Finchley puncher could knock out Tyson Fury early when they clash in Manchester next month.
The 6ft 7½in Polish giant started at Chisora’s north London camp yesterday and will spar with Del Boy for the next four weeks as helps him prepare for his crucial WBO World Heavyweight title eliminator and British and European title showdown at the Phones 4 U Arena on Saturday 26th July.
Wach extended unified World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko the distance in November 2012, losing on the judges’ scorecards, but he gave Klitschko a scare in the sixth round with a big right hand that sent the Ukrainian reeling to the ropes.
Already racking up eight rounds with Chisora, Wach confidently predicted that Chisora will be too strong and powerful for Fury and the knockout could come early.
“Chisora is a very, very, strong fighter, he certainly surprised me with his strength. Even at this stage, with six weeks still left until the fight, he is physically prepared and as strong as bull,” Said Wach
“Fury is a good boxer with a powerful punch, but he’s going to need something big to keep Chisora off him, Chisora is a high pressure fighter, constantly moving forward looking for openings to land his big punches and when they land they hurt,”
“If Chisora can start fast, go under Fury’s punches and connect with his big punches then I can’t see Fury standing up for long and he’ll go down.”
Chisora’s trainer Don Charles added, “Training is going fantastic, my only concern is that it’s going too well. Dereck is like a race horse in the starting stalls raring to get at Fury, we’re having to hold him back,”
“I’m very pleased with the sparring so far with Wach, Dereck is handling his size well and I’ve no concerns that he will handle Fury,”
“People should remember that Dereck has only had 46 fights amateur and pro combined so far, most top pros have over 80-100 amateur fights. He challenged for the World heavyweight title in only his eighteenth fight and he’s come back from set backs to win the European title.
“Everything I’ve seen from Dereck so far, all points towards a conclusive performance and a Chisora win.”
