As one of the up and coming stars on The Money Team, Chris Pearson (11-0) took a big step up in competition back in February when he took on the tough veteran Lanardo Tyner as part of the ShoBox card in Verona, NY. Pearson had looked exceptional in his young career, but Tyner would provide him with a true test to see just where he stood as a pro.
In a tough fight that saw Pearson go down in the sixth round, the young fighter earned a split decision victory and the respect of his opponent. Tyner, who had taken the fight on short notice, didn’t agree with the scores when they were read, but had nothing but positive things to say about Pearson when we caught up with the two fighters outside the Mayweather Boxing Club.
“I think he is gonna be a good fighter. I tried to take him out of his game, but he stuck to his game plan. He worked his jab well, but you know I am gonna get by the jab, so you have to do something better than that. And he did it,” Tyner said when asked what he thought about the fight and Pearson overall.
Tyner is currently in town serving as a sparring partner for Floyd Mayweather and Chris Pearson will be part of Mayweather’s card on May 3 in Las Vegas. Check out the interview and hear what these two great fighters had to say about that night and each other. It’s great to see two guys in this violent sport show respect and appreciation for each other so soon after trying to take each other’s heads off.
