Cunningham Likes What he Sees from Fury

Former IBF Cruiserweight Champion Steve Cunningham has backed Tyson Fury to defeat David Haye when the pair meet in Manchester on 28th September.

Cunningham, who was knocked out for the first time in his career by Fury when the two met in an IBF Heavyweight title eliminator back in April, has been working as part of Fury’s camp ahead of the fight with Haye and he likes what he has seen. “Because I fought the guy and I see his training camp, I can go a little bit further than say ‘may the best man win,’ I believe Tyson is going to win,” the 37 year old said.

Fury is defending a 21 fight unbeaten record against Haye and he has a significant height and reach advantage over the former WBA heavy weight champion but despite this he is leaving nothing to chance and Cunningham has been impressed by the work that the 25 year old, receiving plenty of support in the Unibet odds, has been putting in. “I’m impressed seeing this guy, he’s so big and the work that he’s putting in- you can see that he’s really hungry and he wants this,” the man from Philadelphia said. “With what Tyson is putting himself through in camp, I believe he can beat Haye either way, points or knockout,” he added.

Tyson Fury’s victory over Steve Cunningham was arguably his most impressive to date and he has obviously earned the respect of the man nicknamed ‘USS’ following his time in the US Navy. If Fury can use his size advantage to smother Haye and prevent him from getting in to a rhythm then he may just upset the former champion. Whatever happens he will have to come into the fight at the top of his game, and if what Cunningham says is anything to go by then that will certainly be the case.
