50 Cent, who is a rapper, actor, record label owner, and entrepreneur, can now also be called a boxing promoter. Earlier this week, 50 Cent received his New York promoter’s license. Another license is pending, as his application is being processed in the state of Nevada. The Money Team (TMT), is the promotions legal name. However, Golden Boy president, Oscar De la Hoya, apparently had choice words for the new promoter via twitter.
This is what transpired on twitter between 50 Cent and De la Hoya….
De la Hoya: “Everyone wanting to be a boxing promoter? Good luck. Easier said then done.”
50 Cent: “Sweetheart, I’m surprised you would respond to me and Floyd starting company the way you did.”
50 Cent: “Girl you can call me if you want to talk. Ok.”
50 Cent: “Now everybody wants to be a promoter girl, you better stop.”
50 Cent: “I don’t gamble, Floyd do, but I bet you – you won’t be promoting Floyd Mayweather no more. TMT PROMOTIONS.”
50 Cent: I just want you to know if you ever want to talk you can give me a call girl.”
50 Cent: “Baby girl you hear me, stop hating STOP IT RIGHT NOW.”
De La Hoya: “You’re a boxing promoter? Didn’t know, but good luck. Maybe we can work [together] someday. #success #nextgeneration #GBB #TMT.”
50 Cent: “Great back pedal, can you swim backwards like that too girl? LOL. I [accept] that as a[n] apology. #GBB #TMT more success a head.”
The relationship between De la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather began to go sour when Mayweather fought Victor Ortiz last September. On the 24/7 HBO boxing show for Mayweather-Ortiz, you could hear De la Hoya encouraging Ortiz by saying, “When Mayweather fought me, I was done. I was a shot fighter. You’re young, in your prime.” Mayweather responded by saying, “De La Hoya is a drug user, dresses in drag, committed adultery, and drinks alcohol, and Ortiz looks up to this guy?”
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, attempted to go in another direction with the situation. Schaefer addressed this to BoxingScene.com….
“I think it’s terrific for 50 Cent to get involved in boxing, because he brings a different audience, the hip-hop world and so on, to this sport. I think it’s terrific. I certainly wish him good luck. We know each other, we respect each other. I like him and he likes me…whenever we’re together. I wish him good luck. This is great for boxing.”
The new promotional company is expected to sign Olympic gold medalist and two division champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, as well as super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell. Mayweather could be part of the promotion in the very near future, as he is scheduled to be released from the Clark County Detention Center on August 3rd .
