In the off tv undercard from Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY Miguel Trejo 5-0, 4 KO’s, of Anaheim, CA made quick work of La’Torrie Woodbury 0-2-1 of Roanoke, VA flooring him twice with overhand rights. The bout was stopped immediately after the second knockdown in a fight that was a gross mismatch.
In what turned into a fairly competitive bout Oscar Sarmiento improved to 3-0, 1 KO, with a workmanlike four round unanimous decision 39-37, thrice, over Jose Miguel De La Rosa in a battle of unbeaten prospects. Sarmiento landed the cleaner shots but couldn’t put De La Rosa on the canvass despite hurting him a couple of times. De La Rosa fell to 3-1, 1 KO.
In the biggest mismatch of the night Stevens Bujaj 16-0, 11 Kos, pummeled Sergio Ramirez 11-1, 7 KO’s dropping him twice in the first round with left hooks and stopping him after the second knockdown.
The first Showtime Extreme televised bout featured Boxcino 2015 Heavyweight winner Andrey Fedosov , 29-3, 23KO’s and Mario Heredia 12-4, 10 KO’s who engaged in a back and forth slugfest for the first couple of rounds. Fedosov dropped Heredia in rounds three, four, and five with left hooks on the temple and chin. Subsequently, in round six Fedesov landed another big left hook that floored Heredia who got to his feet but could not continue.
Former Boxcino champions Willie Monroe Jr. and John Thompson engaged in a battle of southpaws. Monroe landed an overhand left that appeared to cuff Thompson around the neck but resulted in a knockdown. Thompson got up but was noticeably hurt , however, Monroe was unable to capitalize. The fight was competitive through four rounds as both fighters had their moments. In the fifth round, Monroe dropped Thompson with a jab from the southpaw stance and was taking control of the bout. Monroe coasted to a unanimous decision victory by scores of 99-89, 95-93, 96-92. Monroe improved to 20-2, 6 KO’s, while Thompson dropped to 17-3, 6 KO’s.
