Floyd Mayweathe Jr.: One man’s take

By John-Paul Wolfe

Recognized as the best fighter in the world today, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has a large and loyal fan base who appreciate his skill in the ring as much as his flamboyant persona outside of it. He spends money like it’s going out of style with a smile on his face while always being accompanied a sizable entourage wherever he goes. Regardless of how many supporters Floyd Mayweather has, there is never a shortage of vocal critics looking to detract from the champion, not necessarily for his work as a professional but rather because they seem to have a personal bone to pick.

It is no secret that Mayweather has had ongoing issues in his private life that have become a topic for public discourse due to his celebrity status. It is easy to point the finger and label him as a villain while accusing him of being a bad example for his young fans. But take a moment to look at the real Floyd Mayweather Jr. He came from a humble background with a goal of achieving greatness, and he did it, and more impressively he continues to strive for greatness each and every day. While many fighters leave the comforts of their home for a training camp where they are able to dedicate themselves fully to the approaching fight, Floyd has no need for this. He works around the clock, putting in the time and effort that is required to be the very best throughout the year.

Floyd’s mantra is “Hard Work, Dedication”. Like in life, there are no short cuts in the ring, and Floyd doesn’t bother looking for them. Instead he works harder than his opposition and reaps the rewards in the form of money and fame. Floyd Mayweather deserves to be valued and admired, not only for his accomplishments and the honors he has received, but for the example he sets by constantly working to fulfill his potential. He is an example of how far an individual can climb as long as they are willing to put in the work.
