Promoter Frank Warren today won libel damages of £50,000 and substantial costs from Alex Morrison.
Mr. Warren sued Alex Morrison after he made false allegations about the reasons for the postponement of Ricky Burns’s fight against Miguel Vazquez. In deciding damages today the Court found that the allegations were a “serious attack” on the reputation of Frank Warren.
In addition, because of the conduct of Alex Morrison throughout the litigation, Frank Warren was also awarded an additional £5,000, interest on his damages and his legal costs.
Mr Warren said today: “I am pleased that the Court awarded me such a high sum in damages and recognised the seriousness of the allegations. I tried to settle this at the beginning seeking only an apology, but Alex Morrison said that he would only deal with this through lawyers and I therefore had no option but to use the Court process to prove my case and the truth.”
