The purse bids were held at the EBU head office in Rome and Warren, Saunders’ promoter, outbid Salvatore Cherchi from OPI 2000, promoter of Blandamura, to stage the fight.
Warren is delighted to secure home advantage for his fighter and the chance for Saunders to add the European title to his British, Commonwealth and WBO International belts.
“It’s a ambition of Billy’s to win the big three titles, the European, British and Commonwealth, before going on to challenge for the world title so I’m delighted to win the purse bids today and give him the opportunity to fulfill his dream. I’ve promoted Billy since he turned professional after the Beijing Olympics and it’s been fantastic to see him develop from a prospect into a champion and now he’s just a few fights from a world title.” Said Warren.
