Mercito Gesta (26-0-1, 13 KOs) outclassed and manhandled Ty Barnett (19-3-1, 12 KOs) throughout nine rounds. Gesta never took his foot off the pedal as he pressured Barnett all night. In the ninth Gesta landed a left hook that had Barnett on queer street. Barnett was on spaghetti legs for the remainder of the fight. The referee stopped the fight after Barnett was getting battered all over the ring. The fight was fought at the lightweight limit.
Junior featherweight prospect Jessie Magdaleno (11-0, 8 KOs) had his way against Aldimar Santos (16-3, 9 KOs) to score a stoppage. Magdaleno wasted no time landing hard shots in the opening seconds and later in the round dropped Santos with two left hooks. The fight was stopped in the second round when Santos had no answer for a Magdaleno’s onslaught.
In the opening televised bout Gabino Saenz (7-0-1, 5 KOs) defeated Dwayne Wisdom (17-3, 9 KOs) by a six round majority decision. The bantamweight fighters gave the fans what they came to see, action. Saenz was more accurate with his punches. The scores were 57-57, and 59-55 twice.
The bout between lightweights Mickey Bey and “Red Hot” Rob Frankel was cancelled when Bey found out that his fight was not being televised by ESPN2. The fights took place in Las Vegas at the Texas Station Casino.
