Miami, Oklahoma –-Getting back in the win column following the horrible stoppage in his loss to James Kirkland back in March of this year, Ring Magazine’s #6 junior middleweight contender, Carlos Molina (20-5-2, 6 KO’s) used his far superior craftsmanship to win a one sided decision outpointing Damian Frias (19-5-1, 10 KO’s). Molina showed why he’s been such a tough nut to crack for basically each of his previous opponents, by using feints, head and upper body movement, and a varied offense. Though not a devastating power puncher by any stretch, Molina uses his aforementioned skillset and ring generalship to set the pace and dictate his game in a way that is reminiscent of the strategic manner in which Bernard Hopkins approaches business in the ring. Tonight it obviously took Frias completely out of his element and saw Frias really only land one memorable punch late in the fight with a straight left that only caught Molina as he was moving out and so had very little effect, if any at all. All in all, it was all Molina en route to a unanimous 10 round decision victory.
Earlier in the night, heavy handed super middleweights, Donovan George (23-2-1, 20 KO’s) and Dionisio Miranda (21-8-2, 18 KO’s) locked horns for the next step up in boxing’s most loaded weight division. George was the one who put the icing on the cake as he used a more varied attack to put Miranda away with a 6th round TKO stoppage.
