Gamache: Nielsen is like a wild dog that’s ready to be unleashed

Joey Gamache believes fans will see the best from Patrick Nielsen (25-1, 12 KOs) when the young Dane makes the first defence of his WBA International Super Middleweight title against Charles Adamu (23-6, 17 KOs) on Saturday, June 20 at the Ballerup Super Arena in Copenhagen.

The experienced coach has been happy with the hunger he has seen from the 24 year-old southpaw, likening him to a ‘’wild dog that’s ready to be unleashed’’.

‘’Patrick has that animal look in his eyes,’’ said Gamache. ‘’You can tell he is more determined than ever. He’s like a wild dog that’s ready to be unleashed! Honestly, this is the best I’ve seen him in the build up to a fight and that’s going to translate to an explosive performance on Saturday night.’’

Twelve months on from a miserable night in Moscow that saw Nielsen suffer his sole career loss at the hands on Dmitry Chudinov, Gamache insists his boxer has come to terms with the defeat, and following a period of rebuilding and a move up to super middleweight, is ready to prove his worth.

‘’There is no doubt that the Chudinov defeat had an effect on him, but I feel that he has finally put that behind him. He has matured now, and he is happiest I have seen him in a long time. Normally the more you push Patrick, the more you will wear him out. We pushed him hard ahead of the Chudinov fight, and that didn’t work in our favour. Now, the hunger is back and he is really pushing himself.’’

With Nielsen firing on all cylinders, the former two-time world champion is predicting a tough night for his opponent, Charles Adamu.

“Adamu is an experienced fighter who fought top guys like Carl Froch and George Groves, but to be honest, I see Patrick on a different level,’’ reveals Gamache. ‘’After watching Patrick the last few weeks, I don’t see the fight going the distance. I expect an early knockout, and I want to see Patrick pushing for that and holding nothing back. This is Patrick’s time to shine and I want to see him to step up and prove that he is ready to challenge the big names in the division.’’

Nielsen’s WBA International Super Middleweight title defence headlines a stacked ‘Danish Dynamite’ Nordic Fight Night event. Micki Nielsen (17-0, 12 KOs) takes on experienced cruiserweight contender Ismail Abdoul (56-34-2, 20 KOs), Dennis Ceylan (14-0-1, 7 KOs) faces former European Champion Sergio Prado (11-4-1, 4 KOs) and Rashid Kassem (8-0, 5 KOs) battles Reynaldo Mora (7-1-1, 4 KOs). All in the action will be shown live on TV3+ and TV3 Sport 1 in Denmark. Tickets are available via http://www.billetlugen.dk.
