Garcia out to show he’s world’s best

WBC and WBA light-welterweight champion, Danny Garcia, insists he is unconcerned by a lack of recognition from the media because he ‘knows in his heart he is the best’.

Garcia will have another opportunity to prove his doubters on betfair wrong when he takes on Lucas Matthysse at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 14. The match is on the Floyd Mayweather-Saul Alvarez undercard.

Garcia has been tipped to come unstuck against the powerful Argentine, who can boast 32 knockouts in his 34 wins.

The American is no stranger to the underdog tag. Amir Khan was highly fancied to beat him in July 2012 but the Brit was knocked out in the fourth round. Garcia has also beaten Erik Morales twice and Zab Judah in the last 18 months.

The unbeaten 25-year-old is confident he will make Matthysse his 28th victim and retain his belts.

“You know, I really don’t care what the media thinks or who they think is the best because in my heart I know I’m the best, and I hold the titles, and September 14 is going to be another day at work for me,” said Garcia.

“I’m still champion and the people who don’t believe – hey, that’s their problem. I know in my heart I’m the best 140-pound fighter in the world, and I’m going to show it.”

Garcia is not fazed by the prospect of coming up against a big hitter in Matthysse. He said he will not experience anything he has not come across before.

“I’ve fought big punchers. I took big shots before,” added the Philadelphia-born fighter. “I’m just going to be smart. I’m going to do what I do best, make adjustments in the fight and get the victory.”
