Jessie Magdaleno (11-0 8 KO’s) vs. Jose Silveira (12-8 4 KO’s)
The first round is uneventful until the final 15 seconds where Magdalena hurts Silveira finishing him off with a flurry that floors the overmatched Siveira at 2:59 of the very first round. Magdalena keeps his record perfect, moving to 12-0.
Andrew Hernandez (5-0 1 KO) beat Rudy Puga (3-1 3 KO’s) by TKO at 1:52 of round 1
Jonathan Victor Barros (34-3-1) vs. Mikey Garcia (29-0 25 KO’s)
As the fighters enter the ring, it’s clear that the crowd is solidly behind Garcia who enters with traditional Mexican music.
RD 1 – Action starts slow in round one as both feel each other out with the jab. The rest of the round is more of the same, as neither offers up much offense. 10-10
RD 2 – More of the same to start the second, with the occasional punches thrown with mean intentions. Midway through the round, Garcia appears to hurt Barros slightly to the body. He hits his gloves together and drives him into the corner trying to inflict more damage. Barros recovers, riding out the bell. 10-9 Garcia
RD 3 – Garcia starting to land with increasing frequency, appearing to relax more as the fight goes on. It’s obvious at this point he doesn’t think Barros can hurt him. 10-9 Garcia
RD 4 – Garcia pumping out the jab with some success as Barros is trying to work the body. Both start to throw big shots with Garcia being more accurate and more frequent. Just before the bell, Garcia lands a big shot but is unable to follow up as the bell rings. 10-9 Garcia
RD 5 – Barros connects with his most meaningful punches of the fight as a straight right is followed by a nice combination. It backs Garcia off, but he doesn’t appear to be hurt in any way. Garcia regains control towards the end, but Barros likely captures his first round. 10-9 Barros
RD 6 – Both land nice shots to start the round. Garcia connects with a right and Barros with a left hook to the body. The last 30 seconds sees both slug it out toe to toe. Neither getting the clear edge, but by far the most excitement in the fight so far. 10-9 Garcia
RD 7 – Barros starts the round strong, taking control of the ring. Garcia regroups, working the jab the latter half of the round. 10-9 Barros
RD 8 – Starts off with nothing exciting at all. Finally a huge left hook by Garcia flattens Barros. He tries to shake off the cobwebs, regaining his feet before the 10 count. However, he is in no condition to continue, forcing referee Robert Byrd to call off the bout. Garcia is your winner by TKO.
Erislandy Lara (17-1-1 11 KO’s) vs. Vanes Martirosyan (32-0 20 KO’s)
RD 1 – Crowd is really into the start of the fight. Good back and forth action. The crowd is more entertaining than the fight though as fans from Armenia and Puerto Rico shout back and forth. Even first round, slight edge to Martirosyan. 10-9 Martirosyan
RD 2 – Vanes is the more aggressive, active fighter so far. He lands several big shots and is in control so far. Lara is on his bike, trying to void the big shots from Martirosyan. 10-9 Martirosyan
RD 3 – It gets ugly here as both sides swing for the fences. Lara puts Vanes in a head lock and gets punched on the break for his troubles. More big exchanges pepper the round, but nobody is hurt. Another close round that could go either way. 10-9 Martirosyan
RD 4 – Lara seems frustrated. Finally, he connects with a nice straight left. Vanes swings wildly failing to connect. A low blow by Lara sends Martirosyan to his knees, prompting a break in the action. Vanes says something that was obviously not nice to Lara after the round. In a coin flip I go 10-9 Lara
RD 5 – A straight left buckles the knees of Vanes to start the round. Vanes responds with a flurry that backs up Lara who smiles in return. Lara spends most of the remainder of the round dancing away with Martirosyan in pursuit. Occasionally they engage when Vanes is able to catch up. 10-9 Martirosyan
RD 6 – Round starts with some impressive shadow boxing. Vanes finally decides to go on the attack. Lara again hops on his bike, moving away. Beautiful counter left by Lara, but it’s not enough as Vanes continues to rack up the rounds. 10-9 Martirosyan
RD 7 – Basically a repeat of every other round early on. Lara starts to find his mark more, countering beautifully to an increasingly wild Vanes. 10-9 Lara
RD 8 – Lara starts of well, finally finding his mark with frequency. The tables have definitely turned. Martirosyan has slowed noticably, allowing Lara to take control of the fight 10-9 Lara
RD 9 – Clash of heads ends the fight early with Martirosyan unable to continue, We go to the scorecards.
