Saturday night, the Magnolia State hosted  a night of boxing which ended with Terrell Gausha scoring a draw against former super welterweight champion Austin Trout (31-5-1, 17KOs). The early rounds signaled trouble for Austin “ No Doubt” Trout, whose year long layoff was visibly evident. The former title holder couldn’t get off his shots against a quick- handed Gausha.

Gausha stuck with the right jab, even letting off some straight shots. The middle rounds did feature a stiff-footed Trout put on a defense, making the rounds closer. However, Gausha pot shotted Trout to win, in my opinion, roughly 8 of the 10 rounds. Yet, the judges saw it differently scoring the bout a draw, 99-91 Gausha, 96-94 Trout, and 95-95.

Chordale Booker ( 15-0, 7KOs) put on an entertaining showcase against Nigerian counterpart, Wale Omotoso ( 27- 4, 21KOs). The only obstacle Booker faced was his own showboating.  It nearly cost him his tongue and the fight, when a tired Booker was assaulted against the ropes by Omotoso.  However, Booker showed grit and heart to survive the last minute of round 9.

Booker would leave the showboating behind in the 10th to gain the unanimous decision win. 100-90 3x.

It was a bantamweight showcase for Chicago’s Shawn Simpson ( 10-0-3KOs), as he frustrated Sergio Quiroz (6-2, 1KO) to a unanimous 6th round decision. Scores were: 60-54 x3.

The night of boxing got off to an awkward start with Ahmed Elbiali (19-1, 16KOs) delivering a 2nd round KO to opponent, Marlos Eduardo Simoes (13-2-2, 5KOs). Elbiali fighting as weird as [always], showboating about, appearing to not take the fight seriously. By the 2nd round Elbiali stuffed the prankster in the corner, delivered a body- blow, sending him feathering to the mat. The most mind boggling part of the bout, was Simoes not making the count, then complaining about a broken jaw when the punishing blow was at his left pectoral.
