Coliseo Mario “Quijote” Moráles, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, — Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (9-0, 6 KOs) defeated Carlos Claudio (14-7-3, 6 KOs) by an eighth round unanimous decision. Pedraza came out in the first round landing pin point punches. “Sniper” displayed his cat-like reflexes in the second by landing clean shots and evading punches. Combination punching by Pedraza won him a wide third round. In the fourth, Claudio was having a hard time figuring out Pedraza because of the different angles that are presented to him.` A thumb in the eye of Claudio in the fifth round halted the bout briefly, as Pedraza continued his laser-like punches. Pedraza unleashed power shots in the six as Claudio clamed he got hit low. Pedraza was deducted a point in round seven for landing low. Claudio could not catch up to his opponent as Pedraza stayed on his toes. The final round saw Pedraza land at will as he was the fresher fighter. Two judges had it 80-72, and the third judge had the fight 79-73. The bout was at the Jr. lightweight limit.
Jorge Melendez (23-2-1, 21 KOs) scored a third round TKO over Germain Sanders (27-11, 17 KOs) in a scheduled eight round Jr. middleweight bout. Melendez landed a short right hook that dropped Sanders in the opening round. Less than a minute later, Sanders went down again from a straight right hand. Very good second round as both fighters stood in the center of ring trading hard shots. A left hook in the third, had Sanders down early. The referee waived the fight off a short time later as Sanders was unable to protect himself.
Miguel Marrero (5-0, 2 KOs) defeated Juan J. Cruz 5-9-2, 1 KO) by a six round unanimous decision. All three judges scored it exact the same(56-55).
