London Bridge isn’t the only thing that’s falling down. David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) backed up his claim of an early knock out of Zimbabwe’s Derek Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) with a 5th round stoppage at 2:57 after putting Chisora on the canvas twice. If you recall, the two got into a brawl during the press conference following Chisora’s unanimous decision loss to Vitali Klitschko 5 months ago. The bad blood came to fruition this afternoon and even escalated some after the fourth round when the two continued stroking it out after the bell and Haye bumping into Chisora on his way back to his corner. Following the stoppage, however, both men embraced and even did their post fight interviews side by side.
With the victory, Haye acquired both WBA and WBO International Heavyweight championships. During his post fight interview, Haye didn’t exactly call Vitali Klitschko out, but answered the question about a fight with him as saying “he’ll probably pick a nobody to fight next….” and from there went on to welcome a showdown with the Ukranian title holder so as to give the world a great fight. At only 31 years old, Haye should have a good number of fighting years left, especially since he spent much of it in the cruiserweight division taking relatively little damage. Time will tell, but today, although he certainly could’ve looked a bit sharper, he looked good enough to give the fans an exciting KO finish in delivering on his KO promise.
