50 Cent has quickly assembled a team of all star fighters. Just last week, the rapper announced his plans of becoming a boxing promoter. The Money Team (TMT) has already received a New York promoters license with a Las Vegas license still pending. The promotion was not without it’s criticism.
Oscar De la Hoya went on Twitter to voice his opinion and it was not all that positive, saying , “promoting is easier said than done”. Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, who is known as a battle rapper, came at De la Hoya with tweets of his own. In rap terms, 5o Cent “let him have it”, calling Oscar a girl among other names.
Now back to boxing. Yuriorkis Gamboa, Andre Dirrell, and IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib are the first three boxers to sign with TMT. Zab Judah and Celestino Caballero are said to be next in line. Andre Berto had a meeting with 50 Cent yesterday and Tweeted, “big plans in the works.”
Add Floyd Mayweather Jr. to the mix and The Money Team will be a force to be reckoned with right from the gate. There is a strong possibility, that Floyd Mayweather Jr. could be out of prison by this Friday. With 50 Cent and Floyd Jr. behind the The Money Team, TMT could change the sport of boxing as we know it.
