Is Keith Thurman the real deal?

By Aonist Coles

Keith Thurman has been blowing past his competition.  With over half of his fights ending in round one, he is a sure crowd pleaser. If there is one thing that Thurman has, it is raw, one punch knockout power, and it definitely makes you anxious to see what is next for this guy.

There are a lot of exciting fights that the boxing world would salivate over all involving Thurman. For example: Keith Thurman vs Andre Berto, Keith Thurman vs Robert Guerrero, Keith Thurman vs Victor Ortiz, Keith Thurman vs Marcos Maidana, Keith Thurman vs Ruslan Provodnikov or any marquee name in the welterweight division.

Any combination of these fights would be something for true boxing fans to get excited about. However, before we get our hopes too high on the possibilities for Thurman’s future, he has some business to take care of on July 27, 2013. That’s when he will be facing another devastating knockout artist by the name of Diego Gabriel Cháves, from Argentina, who is 22-0 with 18 knockouts.

Make no mistake, Keith Thurman does not have a walk in the park. He is fighting another undefeated fighter in Cháves. If you get a chance to look him up on YouTube you will see Cháves can crack!!! Like Thurman, Cháves has never tasted defeat, and he will show up game and ready to win. The past few years Argentina has produced some of the most devastating punchers in the sport, and Cháves looks like he falls right into that line.

Stylistically and on paper, this fight looks like a train wreck in the making. It could end up being a gift to every fight fan worldwide. Hopefully, the fans will get a blessing in disguise. If not, it could very well be a showcase for Keith Thurman’s tremendous punching power against another undefeated fighter. However this fight plays out, if Thurman emerges as the victor, it should put him deeper into the mix at the jam packed welterweight division.
