Jaron Ennis vs Thomas Dulorme Preview & Prediction

By Ian S Palmer

Unbeaten welterweight prospect Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania returns to the ring in Las Vegas this Saturday, October 30th as he takes on veteran Thomas Dulorme of Puerto Rico. The 10-round bout can be seen live in America on Showtime while fans in Canada can catch it on TSN 5. Ennis last fought in April when he stopped Sergey Lipinets in the sixth round. Dulorme last fought in April as well when he dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to Eimantas Stanionis.

Ennis is a fine 24-year-old prospect who enters the ring with a perfect mark of 27-0 with 25 Kos. He’s got a lot of pop in his hands with a current knockout ratio of 89.3 per cent. The only two men to take him the distance were Eddie Diaz who went four rounds in 2016 and James Winchester, who took him six rounds the following year. Ennis stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 74-inch wingspan and has boxed just 76 rounds in his 27 fights since making his pro debut in 2016.

Ennis started boxing at the age of 15 and enjoyed a fine amateur career with a reported mark of 58-3. He was a 2014 US National Golden Gloves Silver medalist in Las Vegas; a 2015 USA Youth National Championships Gold medalist in Reno; a 2015 US National Golden Gloves Tournament Gold medalist in Las Vegas; a 2015 US Olympic Trials Qualifier Gold medalist in Baltimore and a 2015 US Olympic Trials participant in Reno.

In 2018 he won the vacant WBC (USNBC) Silver Welterweight Title with a third-round stoppage over Armando Alvarez. As a pro, Ennis has also beaten the likes of Elvin Perez, Wilfredo Acuna, Mike Arnaoutis, and Juan Carlos Abreu, so he’ll passed his first test when taking a step up in class by beating Lipinets the last time out.

The 31-year-old Dulorme was born in Guadeloupe, but resides and fights out of Puerto Rico. He has a mark of 25-5-1 with 16 Kos and is a good boxer with decent power and a so-so chin. Dulorme’s first pro loss came by seventh-round stoppage to Luis Carlos Abregu in 2012 for the vacant WBC International Welterweight Title. He was then stopped three years later by Terence Crawford in the sixth round in a shot at the vacant WBO World Super Lightweight Belt.

He dropped a close 10-round unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas in 2017 in a fight which saw him deck Ugas in the seventh round after being dropped himself twice in round two. Dulorme lost two points in that bout due to low blows and ended up losing the fight by just one point on two of the judges’ scorecards. Dulorme then fought for the interim WBA Welterweight Title in August of last year and was beaten by Jamal James via unanimous decision.

Dulorme’s biggest wins have been against Hank Lundy, Karim Mayfield and DeMarcus Corley and he fought to a 10-round draw with Jessie Vargas in 2018 in a crack at the vacant WBC Silver Welterweight Title. Dulorme stands 5-feet-10-inches tall and has a reach of 73 inches. He’s fought 182 rounds since turning pro in 2008 and has previously captured the NABF, and NABA USA Welterweight Titles.

Dulorme has average power with a current knockout ratio of 51.6 but has gone the distance in his last five fights and hasn’t recorded a stoppage since 2017. Dulorme fought just once in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020. He boxed twice in 2017 and this will be his second fight this year. His relative inactivity hasn’t helped him since he’s lost his last two fights.

Prediction…

At his very best, Dulorme can give anybody more than they can handle. However, he’s dropped his last two fights, hasn’t stopped anybody for four years and has been stopped twice himself. Ennis has plenty of power and is seven years younger. I’m expecting Ennis to have his hand raised when it’s all over.
